Ref (References)

The left pane (which otherwise displays the ticket for Cameras and Takes) shows a grid of thumbnails of your slate’s references. In this overview, different types of references are mixed (photos, videos, drawings, audio notes) and sorted oldest (top) to newest (bottom).

On the website, thumbnails are shown in the main view.

1. Add a new Reference

If no reference is attached to the slate, press and hold the ‘Ref’ button to expand a menu to reveal a bar of different reference types to create: Camera (new photo or video), Drawing, Audio (note), Roll (the iPad’s photo roll), Existing (references already existing within your project).

2. Select References

The Select menu at the bottom of the pane gives you different options on selecting one or multiple references from the grid. Select All to select all references, Deselect All to select none and Inverse will leave out the selected slates. Once the selection is made, the top menu offers to export the selected references to the iPad’s photo roll or delete the selected references. Cancel takes you out of the Select menu.

3. Reference details

Clicking a thumbnail will show a larger version of the reference on the right, together with additional information.

  1. Directly above the reference: the reference’s name (‘Untitled Reference’ by default).
  2. Directly below the reference: all slates the reference is linked to. A single reference can be linked to multiple slates. For instance: a photo of a light setup that applies to more than one camera angle can be linked to all the slates that use this same light setup.
  3. Further below: Note field for additional information belonging to the reference.

If the reference is a video, player controls and full screen options are presented.
If the reference is an audio note, player controls are presented.

  1. Enlarge and/or edit (icon with a framed pencil)
This is the reference edit button. Click it to further enlarge the reference and/or access additional options. Please refer to Drawing Tools for more info on drawings. iPad app only.
  2. Rotate and flip
This feature lets you rotate the reference to correct portrait and landscape orientation or flip it horizontal or vertical.
  3. Set as thumb (icon with the Setellite logo)
Set the current reference as thumb for a slate (the thumbnail in the slate list) or for the Project (the image banner appearing on the Project Dashboard*).
  4. Export/Share
Export the reference to the device's camera roll.
  5. Reference Link Manager (RLM) (icon with two objects linked)
Displays a list of all the slates in your project and to which slates the current reference is linked. It has a relation with the displayed slates directly below the reference.
  6. Export
Export the selected reference(s) to the iPad’s photo roll.
  7. Delete
    Delete the selected reference(s).

*The project’s image can also be changed under Project Details > General

4. Drawing Tools

Setellite provides a simple, but powerful integrated sketch tool to create references that show additional information to suit your needs. Although you can draw freehand on any solid background color, you also have the possibility to draw directly in photos or even on maps. This is useful to add reminders as notes into any picture or draw additional info on top of a map (for instance to clarify a setup, mise-en-scene, etc.)

  1. Pencil
Choose the thickness of your strokes.
  2. Stroke
Choose the type of stroke used (f.i. dashed or dotted).
