The Slate Pane

All your slates are listed here. To open or close the Slate pane, hold the Main Vertical Bar and swipe to the left or right.

Setellite automatically numbers slates sequentially, adopting the logic of the sequence already in place. A new slate after 187 becomes 188, a new slate after 12b becomes 12c. Custom names are allowed (e.g. ‘VFX_Plate_012’), but not encouraged as the most effective use of Setellite’s system. Based on which slate the number should be incremented can be set in the Application Preferences (Highest, Most recently updated or Currently selected).

Each Slate in the list is displayed as a bar, displaying a thumbnail (1), the Slate Number (2), the amount of takes and cameras connected to it (3), as well as a Timestamp (4) (initially the time of creation, but can be altered if desired). The star symbol (6) can be switched on or off and can be used to quickly filter the list of slates.

Template Slate

The first slate in the list is always the Template Slate. The Template Slate let's you create a form with predefined values that can function as a starting point for new slates to draw from. Imagine the crew prepares to move to a new set up which will be in place for multiple slates/angles. Defining certain values in the template that you know will more or less stay the same (or are easily adjusted) can be a time saver.

Please keep in mind that although very useful, template slates carry the risk that values (or references) not carefully checked or reconsidered for each individual slate become erroneously part of that slate. Leave fields blank that you expect need special attention for each slate.

To create a new slate

To create a new slate, tap the ‘+’ symbol, located at the top of the slate list. On the website: click the ‘+’ symbol on top of the slate list.

Three options are offered:

  1. New Blank Slate
Creates a new Slate which is completely empty.
  2. New Slate based on Template
Creates a new slate which uses the Template Slate as a basis. See Template Slate for more info on how this works.
  3. Duplicate Selected Slate
A new Slate is created based on the Slate that is currently selected. Exactly what data is copied over from the source Slate depends on the current Application Preferences (Optionally Takes, References, Slate Thumbnail and Notes can be copied). If this setting is set to 'Ask me every time' you will be prompted about what information you wish to copy to the new Slate.

To delete a slate

Swipe to the left on an individual Slate and press the revealed ‘Delete’ button.

On the website: press the cross in the red box at the top of the slate list.

Slate list settings

Slates can be sorted based on Slate Number (default), Timestamp, Shoot Day, Scene Number, Episode and Unit. The latter four options will split the list up into sections based on the filled-out values. These sections can be collapsed to shorten the list. You can also invert the list, whatever sorting is selected.

Selecting small thumbs will shrink the rows in the list to half their size allowing for more slates to be visible. Slate timestamps and take/camera counts are not visible in the list when Small Thumbs is selected.

At the top of the Slates list a search bar is available. Typing keywords in this bar instantly filters the Slates list to only show Slates that match the keywords. Keywords are checked against all values that can be filled-out in the Main, Cameras and Takes tabs.

For more elaborate filtering options, create a Slates Filter.
